The first edition.

A heavily extra illustrated copy, with a frontispiece and twenty-one monochrome plates to 'Volume I', rather than the three listed in the 'directions to the binder'. Collated complete. A monochrome frontispiece and twenty-eight monochrome plates to 'Volume II', rather than the twenty listed. Collated, lacking four of the twenty expected plates. A monochrome frontispiece and thirty-seven plates to 'Volume III', including one hand coloured, rather than the twenty listed. Collated, lacking two of the expected plates. A folding map frontispiece and twenty-seven plates, including one hand coloured, rather than the nine listed. Collated, complete. 

Lambert's descriptive history and survey of London and its surrounding areas , a rare to see extra illustrated copy. The work covers the earliest histories of London up to the start of the nineteenth century. 

A four volume, complete set.

Condition

Bound in contemporary half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, closed tear to the rear joint and head of the front to 'Vol I' with back strip lifting, joints starting to 'Vol III and II', tender to the front of 'II', with light rubbing to the extremities and joints, and slight staining to the spines. Internally firmly bound with bright pages and the odd spot, heavier to the odd plate. The odd small tidemark to the tail of the odd plate.
