A collection of works by celebrated 17th-century English poet and academic, John Milton.
This collection is comprised of two works bound together, containing 'Paradise Lost, A Poem in Twelve Books' (1804), and 'Paradise Regain'd; Comus, a Mask; L'Allegro, and Il Penseroso' (1805). With an overall title page, and a title page for each separate work.
Illustrated with a frontispiece to the collected work, another frontispeice to 'Paradise Regain'd' and an illustrated title page to 'Paradise Lost'.
With a short Life of Milton and an index to the first work.
'Paradise Lost' is an epic blank verse poem, concerning the biblical Fall of Man, with the temptation of Adam and Even, and their subsequent expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The poem is considered to be one of the greatest works of literature ever written.
The sequel, 'Paradise Regain'd', is likewise a blank verse poem, though is much shorter than its predecessor, being described as a brief epic.
Condition
Bound in full calf. Externally, generally smart, with rubbing to the front joint, backstrip head and a little to the extremities. Front joint is cracked, with the board a little strained, but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot or mark.
