The collected edition of the works of Thomas Chatterton, complete in three volumes.
Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume, alongside four further engraved plates, including a folding plate of Bristol Castle.

Thomas Chatterton was a prolific 18th century English poet, who died by suicide aged 17.
His poetical works and life had a great influence on Romantic figures such as Shelley and Keats. His death inspired art and literature such as a play by Alfred de Vigny and the oil painting 'The Death of Chatterton' by Henry Wallis.
Among the subscribers to this edition were various members of the nobility, as well as Robert Southey (who supplies the Preface), and both Coleridge and Wordsworth.
With six pages of advertisements to the rear of volume III.
Condition
In full calf bindings. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to back strip heads and tails, and more concentrated rubbing to joints. Front hinge of volume I strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, but generally clean and bright.
