What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding

The fifteenth edition of Vicesimus Knox's collection of essays, in full tree calf. Complete in three volumes.

First printed in 1778, on the recommendation of Samuel Johnson, this collection originally totalled thirty-eight essays combining studies of classical literature, philosophy, and commentaries on the contemporary arts.

Vicesimus Knox was a teacher and an advocate for public education and instruction for boys through grammar schools rather than private home tutors. Knox was also an advocate for educating British women. He believed a good education was composed of lessons in Latin, Greek, geography, English, French, and writing.
