Aesop's Fables is a selection of fables, generally attributed to the Ancient Greek storyteller Aesop, who lived around 620 BCE-564 BCE. The fables are moral tales that guide in religious and secular aspects of life, following adventure of many different creatures.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, and ten plates.
Collated, bound without plates 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 23, and 24.
Croxall was noted for this edition of 'Fables', for his easy colloquial style and their instructive applications, a popular and oft-reprint translation.
Including a life of Aesop.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spine is faded. Light rubbing and bumping to the spine and extremities. A small amount of loss to the head of the spine. A few light marks to the cloth. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots and handling marks. Page 153 to 168 are a little edge worn. Plates have been hand-coloured by a prior owner. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the title page.
