First edition. A very scarce work to find across all four editions.
In a contemporary half calf binding.
This satirical work comments on the societal norms and inhabitants of London, including comparisons to Scotland, Wales and Ireland, the education of London's youth, nobility, merchants, female philosophers, literature and public amusements.
Published anonymously by John Corry, an Irish topographer and historian writer. His other known works include 'The Life of George Washington' (1800) and 'The Detector of Quackery' (1802) which criticised medical frauds and quackery of his day.
Condition
In a contemporary half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, front joint is cracked and mostly held by cords only. Rubbing to the extremities. Engraved bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with tide mark affecting the first few pages and the odd spot.
