Following the Reverend Mr. Yorick on a picaresque journey through France, narrated from a sentimental point of view. Yorick is a character from Sterne's bestselling previous novel Tristram Shandy, who also serves as Sterne's alter ego. Written by Laurence Sterne, an Anglo-Irish novelist and Anglican cleric best known for his comic novels. Dated from the British Library. Previously held in the library of Captain Sir Henry Duncan KCH, a prominent Royal Navy officer of the early nineteenth century, operating with great success against French and Italian shipping and shore fortifications in the Mediterranean during the Napoleonic Wars.
Condition
Bound in full tree calf. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with light loss to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Minor age toning to the extremities with the previous owner's bookplate and contemporary ink inscriptions to the front pastedown.
