'A Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland' is a travel work by Samuel Johnson. The work documents his eighty-three journey travelling through Scotland, mostly the islands of the Hebrides. The journey was undertaken in the later summer and autumn of 1773.
During the journey, Johnson was accompanied by his younger friend and his biographer James Boswell. Boswell published his work 'A Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides' recounting this same trip, published in 1785.
In this work, Johnson documents Scotland's culture, people, antiquities, dress, whisky, religion, architecture, language, education, the trees, and the orchards.
