Description

Folding Maps, Leather Binding

In a half calf binding with marbled paper boards.

First edition.

Illustrated with a fold-out map.

This book was part of the Board of Agriculture and Internal Improvement’s county survey series, which were commissioned between the late 18th and early 19th centuries to gather comprehensive data on the agricultural conditions of Britain.

Robert Brown’s General View of the Agriculture of the West Riding of Yorkshire was one such survey. It provides an in-depth account of the agricultural practices, soil composition, crops, livestock, and rural economy of the West Riding of Yorkshire at the end of the 18th century.

The Board was established in 1793 under Sir John Sinclair, and it tasked local experts to produce “General Views” of each county’s farming, economy, and natural resources.
