    First Edition, Leather Binding, Scarce

    Translated from the original Ancient Greek by John Gillies.

    The scarce first Gillies translation of these works, complete in two volumes. 

    Gillies presents Aristotle's key works on moral and political philosophy, presenting the Nicomachean Ethics and his Politics as a unified system of practical thought. 

    Gillies argues in the preface that these two works 'ought never to have been disjoined, since they are considered by Aristotle himself as forming essential parts of one and the same work'.

    Lacking half titles, but with all other text leaves present: [3], a4, B-3G4; [3], B-3I4, 3K

    With colour pencil underlining of the text from a prior owner throughout.

    Including a detailed life of Aristotle, and commentaries on his works.

    In tree calf bindings, with gilt detailing to back strip. Lacking both volume I spine labels, and minor losses to volume label to volume II. Minor losses of calf to back strip tails. Head and tail of front joint of volume I, and tail of rear joint of volume I starting, with boards firmly held. Head and tail of front joint of volume II, and head of rear joint of volume starting, with boards firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Lacking half titles. Pages bright, with instances of colour pencil underlining throughout both volumes.
