Written by William Marshall, who published six studies on the farming practices of different regions of England from 1788 to 1798, which remain important historical resources on English agriculture. This particular work surrounds agricultural practices of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and North Wiltshire. Volume I describes the topography of Gloucestershire and includes information on the cultivation of crops; hiring of staff; animal husbandry; and farming implements and buildings of this county. Volume II includes similar information regarding the Cotswold Hills and the vale of Berkeley; and then tackles the dairy management of North Wiltshire and the orchard management of Herefordshire.

Condition
Bound in contemporary half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Externally very smart with marks to the spine and boards, rubbing to the boards, and minimal wear to the extremities. Bookplate of 'Charles Bill' to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound with bright pages with light spotting to the front and rears, otherwise clean. Owner's signature to the title page, with owner's labels to the rear blanks. Light tidemarks to the rear few pages of 'Vol 2'.
