What Our Customers Say...

Description

Folding Maps, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound

Illustrated with a folding map - hand-coloured in outline - and with four engraved plates. Collated, complete.

The map is entitled, "A map of England, shewing the lines of all the navigable canals, with those which have been proposed", is engraved by Thomas Conder.

Writing at the time of the industrial revolution in England, Phillips' enthusiasm and passion for the subject is evident; Phillips was a great surveyor of canals, and his works were widely read and published by his peers.

Phillips thought that canals provided a method of easy and secure communication to other parts of the country. Phillips considers distances, timing, and prices.
