Scottish jurist, Whig politician and historian Sir James Mackintosh offers a response to Edmund Burke’s 'Reflections on the Revolution in France'.
Mackintosh defends the early phases of the French Revolution, arguing that its principles of liberty and equality were justified, and he vindicates those English intellectuals who supported it.

In a contemporary calf binding, with gilt detailing to board perimeters. Head of front joint starting, with board firmly held. Rear hinge strained, but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with spotting to title page and to the perimeters of the odd leaf.
