Illustrated with a monochrome engraved frontispiece and four engraved plates, including one folding plate. Frontispiece is an extra very scarce plate, not seen in other available copies, though it is in the same contemporary style. Plate titled 'Fairford', which is often bound as the frontispiece, has been bound opposite pp.3. Collated, complete.
Ralph Bigland's very scarce historical account of Fairford in Gloucestershire. Bigland was an English antiquarian, known for his historical works about Gloucestershire. In this work, Bigland describes the stained glass windows in the church and engravings of the ancient monuments.
Bound in nineteenth century half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Endpapers renewed.
Condition
Bound in nineteenth century half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Endpapers renewed. Externally very smart with light rubbing to the extremities, and slight rubbing to the extremities of the boards. Bookplate of Francis E. B. Witts to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages, with only occasional light spotting, roughly cut pages, and occasional offsetting from the illustrations. Author's name handwritten to tail of title page.
