Description

Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

A tragic play, marked with the variations in the Manager's Book at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, London. A widely performed piece, set in Sicily, which opens with the King of Syracuse Evander having been imprisoned by a usurper, Dionysius. Evander's daughter, Euphrasia, is dedicated to his rescue. As the play was performed for almost sixty years, for many British actresses in the eighteenth century, playing the role of the central heroine, Euphrasia, was a key step in gaining fame and popularity. Written by Arthur Murphy, an Irish writer and barrister.
