What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding

The fourth edition of this work, published in Dublin.

Complete in two volumes.

A wealth of poetry by the Romantic poet William Cowper. These volumes include 'Table Talk', 'The Progress of Error', 'Charity', 'John Gilpin', 'The Task', and more.

The first edition of volume I was published separately in 1782 as 'Poems', while the first edition of volume II was published separately in 1785 as 'The Task'.

Many of the poems published in this work were written on recovery of Cowper's attack of insanity, where he believed he was eternally condemned to hell. The influence of this experience can be seen in his pieces, 'The Progress of Error' and 'Human Frailty'.

Condition

In a full tree calf binding, with gilt detailing to the back strip. Externally, lovely. Tail of front joint of volume I, and head of rear joint of volume II starting, with boards firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
