A very scarce first edition. This work was reprinted in 1840, in an edition which is also very scarce.
The Birmingham Court of Requests was established in 1752 to handle minor debt disputes, usually involving sums under 40 shillings.
William Hutton, a historian and bookseller, draws on his own experiences as a commissioner of the court, including personal anecdotes and social commentary.

Condition
In a full calf binding. Front board detached but present, as is front free endpaper. Lacking spine label. Significant rubbing to boards, with back strip lightly age toned. Minor losses of calf to back strip head and tail. Rear joint starting, with board firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Ink inscription to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with instances of spotting throughout, and the odd area of foxing.
