The memoir of Warren Hastings, who served as the first Governor-General of Bengal from 1773 to 1785 and was a key figure in the early administration of British India.

Hastings uses the volume to justify British policy in their governance of India, justifying his own actions concerning revenue collection, military campaigns, and interactions with Indian rulers
He was impeached in House of Commons for alleged crimes in India, including embezzlement, extortion and coercion. The trial began in 1788, and lasted 148 days over the course of seven years. He was ultimately acquitted in 1795.
Condition
In a full calf binding. Externally, smart, with small loss of calf to rear joint. Front joint starting, as is head of rear joint, with boards firmly held. Stamp to tail of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Frontispiece detached to tail, but firmly held, with tide mark to tail. Offsetting to title page. Pages lightly age toned, with spotting throughout, concentrated to page perimeters.
