Description

Volume I only, of a total of four volumes. This work was first published in one volume in 1783, then in two in 1783, increasing to four in 1784, and to five in later editions.

This work presents a collection of anecdotal essays by Guillaume Imbert, in which he explores society of the day, only a few years before the outbreak of the French Revolution.

Imbert was originally a Benedictine monk, forced to become one by his periods. He soon left, and went on to write controversial pieces, which led him to being imprisoned in the Bastille three times.
