French. Scarce work. With a frontispiece. A lyrical poem in prose written as an imitation from the Greek of Eustathius Macrembolites, a Byzantine revivalist of the ancient Greek romance. The style is considered remarkable by both contemporary and modern critics for the absence of hiatus and a laboured use of antithesis. Originally translated into French by Pierre Francois Godard de Beauchamps, a French playwright, theater historian, libertine novelist and translator.
