Collated, bound without one plate.

A volume collection together some of the poems and plays of Oliver Goldsmith, the eminent Anglo-Irish author of the eighteenth century. 

This volume includes 'The Hermit', 'Traveller', 'She Stoops to Conquer', 'Double Transformation', 'Elegy on the Death of a Mad Dog', 'Deserted Village', 'Good Natur'd Man', and more.

With a life of the author, who had died only a few years before this edition was published.

Bookplate of George Bramwell Baker to the front paste down. Baker was a financier based in Boston and Philadelphia.

Condition

In a rebacked calf binding. Externally, a little rubbed. Light bumping to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the head and tail of the spine. Minor marks to the boards and spine. Loss to the spine label. Small repair to the rear board. Hinges are repaired. Two bookplates to the front paste down. Internally, textblock is worn, textblock from page 185 to the rear, including the rear board, are held by two cords only. Binding is strained between pages 112 and 113. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean with the occasional spot. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of page i.
