A very scarce review of the works of Hesiod, written here in Latin by one Thomas Robinson.
A new edition. One earlier publication found from 1737, published in Oxford by E Theatro Sheldoniano under the title 'Hesiodou tou Askraiou ta heuriskomena. Hesiodi Ascræi quæ supersunt, cum notis variorum edidit Thomas Robinson, S.T.P.'.
In a full vellum binding.
With an engraved portrait frontispiece. Collated against a copy held by Hathi Trust, complete.
Poetical works are given in the original Greek text, the text of which has been compared to manuscripts, including one supplied to Robinson by the Bodleian Library. With an introductory essay on the poet and a wide array of extracts given from his attributed works.
Condition
In a full vellum binding, with gilt to the spine and marbled endpapers. Externally, with marks and slight discolouration to the vellum. Bookplate of one Adam Smith Annand to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with minor toning and the occasional spot. Minor offsetting to the title page.
