What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, Leather Binding
The fourth edition.
Two volumes bound in one.
Volumes VII and VIII of a total of XXXIV volumes.
A fascinating and detailed account of trials for high treason in England between the earliest times to the eighteenth century, as well as looking at trials for other crimes and misdemeanors.
Volume VII looks between the years 1549 and 1688, VIII between 1689 and 1824, with a number of appendices to Volume VIII, covering the previous eight volumes.
Looking at the trials of Sir Thomas Seymour, Edward Duke of Somerset, Lord Balmerino, Sir John Finch, Colonel Eusebius Andrew, Sir William Scroggs, Lady Theodosia Ivie, Samuel Johnson, Rowland Walters, Henry Duke of Norfolk, Charles Knowles, David Baillie, Edward Arnold, and more.
Of particular interest is the trial of Sir Thomas Seymour, who was executed for treason as a result of the trial detailed in this volume. Likewise the trial of Samuel Johnson, who was tried in 1686 for writing and publishing two seditious and scandalous libels against the government.
With a new preface by Francis Hargrave.
