Bound in a beautiful contemporary eighteenth century full calf binding with decorative gilt tooling to the spines.
A collection of passages from dramatic works from a series of renowned authors, such as William Shakespeare, John Dryden, Samuel Johnson and Tobias Smollet. The passages are selected and grouped by themes, such as resignation, the soul, wooing, and Loyalty, and come from notable plays and dramatic works such as Shakespeare's Othello, and many more.
Bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst to the verso of the front free endpaper. Robert J. Hayhurst inherited and improved a successful group of retail pharmacies, John Hayhurst & Son, based in Nelson, Lancashire. He was a keen collector of naval history and of eighteenth-century literature in contemporary bindings.
Condition
Bound in full contemporary calf. Externally excellent with minor marks to the boards, and very minimal rubbing to the joints and extremities. Bookplates of 'J. M. Elton' and 'Robert J. Hayhurst' to the front endpapers. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with only minimal spotting to the front and rear to 'Vol 4', with only the odd spot otherwise.
