Illustrated with an engraved title page, and with nine plates by Sparrow or Chambars after Gessner, alongside further engraved vignettes. 

Collated, complete.

Rebacked, retaining original endpapers.

In his poetry, Gessner represents the Enlightenment era's artistic and intellectual trends, focusing on idealized natural landscapes and simple rural life.

Condition

Rebacked, in a full calf binding. Retaining original boards and endpapers. Significant rubbing to fore edge of boards, with small losses of calf to back strip head and tail. Joint heads and tails starting, with boards a touch tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
