Complete in three volumes, present here are the letters of the Anglo-Irish novelist and Anglican cleric Laurence Sterne, best known for the novels 'The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy' and 'A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy'.
Volumes I and II are present in the 1776 new edition, with a frontispiece to volume I.

This work features 117 letters, with 115 being written by Sterne, and with two from correspondents of Sterne.
With a former owner's inscription to the front free endpaper, and to head of volume II title page.
In attractive tree calf bindings, with gilt detailing to back strips.
Condition
In tree calf bindings. Significant rubbing to back strips, with light rubbing to boards. Loss of leather to volume III back strip head and tail. Front joints of volumes I and II starting, but firmly held. Inscriptions to front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, but generally exceptionally clean and bright. Inscription to head of volume II title page.
