What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Leather Binding

The first John Baskerville edition.

In the original Latin.

This volume includes Terence's six surviving classical plays, 'Andria', 'Hecyra', 'Heauton Timorumenos', 'Eunuchus', 'Phormio', and 'Adelphoe'.

Terence was a Roman African playwright active during the Roman Republic, originally being brought to Rome as a slave before being freed due to his impressive literary abilities. His plays were incredibly important, used in the teaching of the Latin language during the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

John Baskerville was an innovative type designer and printer.  The Baskerville type is regarded as a transitional serif typeface intended as a refinement of the old-style typefaces of the period such as Calson. The typefaces were greatly admired by Benjamin Franklin.
