The first edition of this supplementary volume for Thomas Pennant's 'British Zoology'.
Illustrated with one hundred and three monochrome engraved plates. Collated, complete.
A very scarce work.
An additional volume of plates by Thomas Pennant, intended to be a supplementary volume for the first three volumes of his renowned natural history series 'British Zoology'. The work provides a series of new plates with Pennant claiming that are intended to 'supply the deficiency of plates in the three first volumes; and to correct any errors that may have crept into them'. The illustrations are accompanied with brief explanations.
Condition
Bound in contemporary calf boards, re-backed in crushed modern morocco. Front free endpaper and rear endpapers renewed. Externally, marks and edge wear to the boards. Bookplate of Richard Beresford to the front pastedown, with marks to the front. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with the odd spot and minor mark. Owner's signature to the title page.
