Illustrated with a total of forty-two engraved plates, including a map of the labyrinth, and an engraved title page, forty plates, and a vignette engraving.
Collated, complete.
Illustrated by English writing master and engraver George Bickham.
This satirical and allegorical work that uses the character of Aesop as a mouthpiece for social and political commentary on the French court, particularly the intrigues and excesses of Versailles.
First published in the original French by Charles Perrault, this is the first English language edition, translated by Daniel Bellamy.

In a quarter morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards, and with endpapers renewed. Housed in a felt lined chemise, and matching slip case.
Condition
Rebacked in marbled paper covered boards, with endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Housed in a felt-lined chemise, and matching slip case. Chemise in fine condition, with slip case near fine, with instances of light fading to board perimeters. Internally, firmly bound. Minor loss and neat restoration to tail of final leaf. Small closed tears to fore edge of title page. Pages lightly age toned, with the odd spot, and instances of light handling marks. With light offsetting to pages facing plates.
