Volume eight only of a nine volume set. Being the second volume of his letters. A collection of the letters of Alexander Pope, an English poet, translator, and satirist of the Enlightenment era who is considered one of the most prominent English poets of the early eighteenth century. An exponent of Augustan literature, Pope is best known for his satirical and discursive poetry and his translations of Homer. This collection includes letters between 1714 to 1732, addressed to and from individuals including Edward Blount, Robert Digby, Dr. Atterbury the Bishop of Rochester, and Mr. Gay.
Condition
In the original full vellum binding. Externally, smart with light wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading and discolouration to the extremities as is typical with ageing. The odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Lacking the front free endpaper which has been neatly cut out. Pages are bright with the odd mark and light age toning to the extremities.
