Bound in full calf.

A much-loved example of an eighteenth century prayer book. This copy belonged to Alice Blood, with numerous ink inscriptions throughout, including a documentation of her birth year, 1755.

Comprised of 'The Book of Common Prayer, And Administration of the Sacraments, And other Rites and Ceremonies Of the Church, According to the Use of the Church of England' (1763) bound with 'A Companion to the Altar' and 'The Whole Book of Psalms' (1763).

Profusely illustrated, with forty-one engraved plates, most of which depict scenes from the Bible or the portrait of a Saint. Very unusual to see this edition of the Book of Common Prayer with all the illustrations bound in.

Containing information surrounding the sacraments, rites and ceremonies according to the Church of England. With chapters on the holy days, order of mass, type of prayer and other important dates throughout the year. The 'Book of Common Prayer' is comprised of guidance for administering the sacraments and rites of the Church of England, also containing the Psalms of David to be sung or said in churches.

Condition

Bound in full calf. Externally, slightly worn, with rubbing and bumping to the leather, and marks to the boards. Hinges are holding generally firm. Internally, binding is strained, with some leaves and plates disbound. Pages are age toned, with the odd closed tear or chip, with a horizontal tear to C4. Handling marks and the odd spot to pages.
