The first edition of this work to be acknowledged by Voltaire, following several pirated editions which had been published from 1755 onwards.
A number of additions and corrections were made to this edition, with the poem being preceded by the "Preface of Don Apuleius Risorius, Benedictine", composed for this edition, and with the new cantos: VIII, IX, XVI, XVII and XVIII, while canto XX, corresponding to the old canto of the donkey, has been almost entirely redone, and the canto of Corisandre and the verses of the Epilogue are deleted. This work is a satirical poem by Voltaire about Joan of Arc. A controversial work, the poem was outlawed, burned and banned throughout a great portion of Europe during the 18th and the 19th centuries.
