Samuel Johnson's popular apologue about bliss and ignorance, a fable-like novel about a Prince of Abyssinia named Rasselas.

The novel follows Rasselas, who is shut up in a beautiful valley named the Happy Valley, kept there until he can ascend to the throne. He finds the need to escape the valley, enlisting the help of an artist, escaping with his sister Nekayah.

A philosophical work, Johnson imbued a lot of practical importance to this text that was written around the time of his mother's death in 1759.

The early editions of this work were published as 'The Prince of Abissinia', though it is commonly known now as 'Rasselas'.
