Description

Original Binding

One-hundred and five issues of 'The London Chronicle' bound in one volume, for February 3rd 1759 to October 4th 1758, being issues 329 to 432.

'The London Chronicle' was a thrice-weekly evening paper founded in 1756, running until it was absorbed into the London Packet in 1823.

This was an early London based family newspaper, containing news both national and global, as well as covering artistic, literary, and theatrical events of the city. Many of the articles in this newspaper were copied from government reports, which has been published in the official 'London Gazette', a practice which was rife and common at the time.

In 1776, 'The London Chronicle' was one of the first newspapers to break the news that the United States had declared independence.

This volume in particular encompasses many battles of the Seven Years' War, including notices of the outcomes and casualties.
