1749 Considerations sur le Commerce et la Navigation
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding, Scarce
The first French language translation of this work. Translated from the fourth English language edition.
First published in 1729, this is the work of British merchant, publicist and economist Joshua Gee. Gee provides an overview of the history of British trade, while also discussing the problems faced by merchants.
With much focus on labour shortage in the colonies, Gee suggests England transport convicts, the poor, and the unemployed to work in the Americas.
Amusingly, one chapter is focused on the manner in which 'French fashions are pernicious to the English'.
A scarce first edition thus of an exceedingly popular work in its day, with over twenty editions - in English, French, Dutch, Spanish and German - published between 1729 and 1780.
