The Works of Shakespear, in Nine Volumes, with a Glossary, carefully printed from the Oxford Edition in Quarto from 1744.
Volume I, II, III, IV, V, VI and IX are from an edition published in 1750-1, with volume I and IX dated 1750, and volumes II, III, IV, V and VI dated 1750, in compliance with a copy held at the British Library mentioned on Jisc. Volume VII and VIII were printed in 1748 and 1747 respectively. All volumes were "Carefully Printed from the Oxford Edition in Quarto, 1744".
With a preface by Alexander Pope and an account of the life of Shakespeare by Mr. Rowe, to the first volume.
Each volume carries its own title page, with a separate half title to each play.
Comprised of the following:
Volume the First. Containing The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Merry Wives of Windsor. (1751). Illustrated with a frontispiece and an additional plate.
Volume the Second. Containing Measure for Measure, The Comedy of Errors, Much Ado about Nothing, The Merchant of Venice, Love's Labour Lost. (1750).
Volume the Third. Containing As You Like It, The Taming of the Shrew, All's Well that Ends Well, Twelfth Night, or What You Will. (1750).
Volume the Fourth. Containing The Winter's Tale, King Lear, King John, King Richard II. (1750).
Volume the Fifth. Containing King Henry IV, Part I, King Henry IV, Part II, King Henry V, King Henry VI, Part I. (1750).
Volume the Sixth. Containing King Henry VI, Part II, King Henry VI, Part III, King Richard III, King Henry VIII. (1750).
Volume the Seventh. Containing Timon of Athens, Coriolans, Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra. (1748). Lacking the final leaf.
Volume the Eighth. Containing Titus Andronicus, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Troilus and Cressida, Cymbeline. (1747). Illustrated with a frontispiece and three plates.
Volume the Ninth. Containing Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Othello and a Glossary. (1751).

Condition
Bound in full calf. Externally, sound, with rubbing to the extremities and boards. Hinges are strained, more so to VII and V. Lacking spine label to all volumes apart from II, III and V, although label to V is chipped. Bookplate to front paste down of most volumes. Ink inscription to title page to all volumes apart from VII and VIII. Ink to front endpaper. Burn mark and small amount of loss to the front endpaper of III. Lifting to the front paste down of VI. Lacking paper to front paste down to VII. Endpapers renewed to VIII. Internally, generally firmly bound, with a few leaves strained to VI. Lacking the final leaf to VII. Pages are lightly age toned with the occasional handling mark.
