1745 The Works of Shakespear. In Six Volumes.
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Leather Binding
Complete in six volumes.
Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece to volume I.
This impressive collection of Shakespeare's work includes all of his dramatic works.
Edited by Sir Thomas Hanmer, 4th Baronet, who was a Speaker of the House of Commons from 1714 to 1715, but is best remembered as being one of the early editors of the works of William Shakespeare.
Hanmer's emendations were largely taken from those previously published by Alexander Pope and Lewis Theobald, resulting in Pope ridiculing him.
Volumes II-VI uniformly bound in contemporary plain calf, with volume I in a full calf binding with gilt detailing to back strip.
