1742 The History and Proceedings of the House of Commons from the Restoration to the Present Time (Vol II & IV)
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding
First edition. Volume II and Volume IV only from this ambitious 14-volume series.
Uniformly bound in a later quarter calf, with cloth boards.
This work chronicles the most significant political and historical happenings within the House of Commons from 1660-1743, including speeches, parliamentary proceedings, and discussions of issues such as the national debt and war expenses, with notes from and about significant lawmakers and other eminent figures of the time.
Originally printed by Richard Chandler in 1742-1744, the history was thought to be an "ambitious project" which Chandler set about completing entirely on his own. The printing, despite being supported by the Prince of Wales, suffered vast financial losses.
One of the most comprehensive and significant histories of the country's political proceedings for this time.
