    Originally published in 1598 as 'A treatise and discourse of the lawes of the forrest' by John Manwood, this is the fifth edition of the work to be edited by William Nelson.

    This important legal work systematically outlines the laws and administration of royal forests in England.

    It explains the statutes and common-law principles in force at the time, but also traces the origins of forests, and differentiates them from chases, parks and warrens.

    With the stamp 'Bond' to the front free endpaper.

    Condition

    In a full calf binding. Minor loss of calf to back strip head and tail, otherwise externally excellent. Tail of front joint starting, with board firmly held. Stamp to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Half title and title page have been washed, with remaining leaves lightly age toned due to paper type.
