Description

Leather Binding

An exploration of the history of the law and politics in England, from the earliest times to the end of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. A constitutional history of the country, looking at the development of the civil and ecclesiastical institutions across the centuries.

This work is of note in particular due to its discussion on the politics of Norman England, as it is considered to be the first work to do so.

The work is anti-clerical and favours government by an elected council.

By Nathaniel Bacon, from "some manuscript notes" by John Selden. Bacon was a Puritan lawyer, and a politician who sat in the House of Commons. He was also the Judge of the High Court of Admiralty.

Fourth edition stated to the title page.
