Rebacked in mottled calf, with the contemporary boards laid down and a black morocco spine label. 

With an engraved title page, two engraved plates, one folding genealogical table and six folding maps and plans. Collated, complete. 

With an unnumbered twenty-six page index to the end of the work.

Flavius Josephus was a Roman-Jewish historian and military leader, best known for his valuable contributions towards the history of of the Jewish revolt and on earlier Jewish history. His major works include 'History of the Jewish War', 'The Antiquities of the Jews' and 'Against Apion'.

This volume comprises the following of his works: I. The Antiquities of the Jews: In Twenty Books; II. Their Wars with the Romans: In Seven Books; III. The Life of Josephus: Written by Himself; IV. His Book Against Apion, in Defence of the Antiquities of the Jews. In Two Parts; V. The Martyrdom of the Maccabees; VI. Philo's Embassy from the Jews of Alexandria to Caius Caligula. 

The acclaimed translation of L'Estrange, completed just two years before his death. To which are added two discourses and several remarks and observations upon his work.

Condition

Rebacked in mottled calf, with the contemporary speckled calf laid down to the boards. With renewed endpapers and reinforced hinges. Externally, with really only rubbing to the boards and loss to the contemporary calf. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with light spotting to the first and last few leaves. With occasional light tide marks. Toning to one of the folding plates.
