The first edition of John Quincy's translation and revision of the official pharmacopoeia of the Royal College of Physicians, based upon the 1618 'Pharmacopoeia Londinensis', which was the first authoritative, standard pharmacopoeia for the whole of the country.
With the former owner's inscription of Thomas Roe, September 1785, to the front free endpaper.

With the collation A-Z8, 2A4. Collated, lacking the final text leaf [2A5], the sixteen page index to the rear, and the terminal blanks.
Quincy expands the 'Pharmacopoeia Londinensis' with explanations, notes, and criticisms, making it both a reference book and a teaching text. He rejected the Galenic notion of spirits residing in the body and was opposed to medical quackery.
