    The two volume second edition of this work, in contemporary panelled calf bindings.

    An important and vivid history of Oxford, and its attendees.

    Anthony Wood explores the writers and bishops and other eminent figures who were educated at the ancient and famous university, from 1500 to 1695. The text comprises of detailed biographies on those eminent men.

    This work was the first serious attempt at an English biographical dictionary.

    ESTC T59423. The 'Fasti Oxoniensis' have separate pagination and register.

    [2], a-b2, c1, B-3A4, 3B2, *A-*2P2; [2], a1, B-4F4, 4F1, *A-*I2.

    Collated, complete.

    With the bookplate of Henry Edgeworth Bicknell Arnold to the front pastedown, and a number of newspaper clippings regarding Wood to the front pastedown and front free endpaper.

    Condition

    In contemporary panelled calf bindings. Minor losses to spine labels. Joints starting, with front boards a touch tender, and rear boards firmly held. Bookplates to front pastedowns, with newspaper clippings to front pastedown and front free endpaper of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, though a touch age toned, with the odd spot or handling mark. Tide marks to fore edge of four leaves to the rear of volume I.
