Best known for this reference work originally published in 1699, the dictionary has been the basis of many subsequence French-English dictionaries.
Condition
In a contemporary calf binding. Small losses of leather to back strip head and tail, with light rubbing to raised bands. Lacking spine label. Joint heads and tails starting, with boards firmly held. Lacking endpapers. Ink inscriptions to front and rear pastedown. Minor loss to title page head. Instances of contemporary ink inscriptions to first and last few leaves, such as to leaves A3, B1, and verso of final leaf. Pages significantly age toned due to paper type, with handling marks and instances of spotting throughout. Lacking terminal blank, leaf 4L4, and also lacking the engraved frontispiece.
