The scarce first edition of this work, handsomely bound in contemporary panelled calf.

Church of Ireland priest and leading Jacobite propagandist Charles Leslie authored this work.

He defends the system of tithes using a theological defence, arguing that ministers of the Church have a God-given right to tithes, supporting his case with scriptural precedent and early church tradition.

With the armorial bookplate of William Westby to the front pastedown, with his inscription to the title page head.

Leslie is best remembered today for his role in publicising the 1692 Massacre of Glencoe.

Condition

In a contemporary panelled calf binding, with gilt detailing to back strip. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to back strip head. Joint heads and tails starting, with boards firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Small loss to head of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
