1699 Histoire des Cinq Propositions de Jansenius
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding
First edition of this work. In the original French. This attack on Jansenism was published anonymously. Historically, it was attributed to Hilaire Dumas, a doctor from Sorbonne. However, more recent bibliographers such as Barbier ascribe it to the French Jesuit, Michel Le Tellier. Le Tellier was one of the founders of the journal 'de Trevoux'. He was the confessor of Louis XIV and used his influence to fight the Jansenists which led to the closure of the monastery of Port Royal des Champs. He also persuaded Clement XI to enact the bull 'Unigenitus Dei Fillius' which was directed against the heresy of the Jansenists. An uncommon work.
