The second edition, first published in 1681, with the sixteen page preface. Early copies of this work are very scarce. 

The register runs from A2-A8, b2, B8-O8, P5. Collated, lacking A1, the monochrome frontispiece. 

Gilbert Burnett's biography on the life of the influential barrister Sir Mathew Hale. Hale was best known for writing 'Historia Placitorum Coronae' (The History of the Pleas of the Crown'). Hale was involved in the witch trials which sentenced Amy Duny and Rose Cullender, with his judgement in this case influencing the Salem Witch Trials. His views that a husband can not be guilty of rape against his wife influenced the continuation of this law up until 1991, when it was repealed by the House of Lords.  

Bound in full contemporary calf, re-backed in modern calf. Endpapers and blanks renewed.

Bound in full contemporary calf, re-backed in modern calf. Endpapers and blanks renewed. Externally, wear to the extremities with slight marking to the boards. Light spotting to the endpapers. Internally, lacking frontispiece, otherwise firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages very minimal age toning to the extremities, and only the odd very minor spot. Slight loss to pp.10.
