    Description

    Leather Binding, Very Scarce

    Very scarce. In the original Latin. 

    Bound in full crushed morocco, with gilt detailing. 

    This book of valuations offers a concise record for all ecclesiastical benefices and preferments in England and Wales, providing details on the economic state of the Church during this period.

    With a contemporary ink inscription describing a bookplate to the verso of the title page (now missing) of Sir Charles Hedges (1650-1714), an English lawyer and politician who also served as one of Queen Anne's Secretaries of State. Unfortunately we are unable to prove this provenance now without the presence of the bookplate mentioned, but there is discolouration to this area suggestive of the existence of a bookplate.

    Condition

    Bound in full crushed morocco, with later pastedowns and front and rear free endpapers. Retaining the original blanks. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities, most notably to the spine. Marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. With minor age toning to the pages and light spotting throughout. Tide marks to the first few pages. Contemporary ink inscriptions to the front blanks. Yellow stain to the verso of the title page suggestive of the previous presence of a bookplate.
