A seventeenth-century edition of the writings of Joan Ravisii, or Jean Tixier de Ravisi, a French humanist scholar and professor of rhetoric. Known for his contributions to French academia, Tixier worked in various humanities departments at universities during the sixteenth century.
Written in the original Latin. A collection of 'Epithetorum', or epithets, compiled alphabetically, and concerning a variety of topics.
With notes from Hadrianus Junius, a Dutch physician, classical scholar and translator.
Page 430 is misnumbered "304", as is called for.
Condition
Bound in full calf. Externally, sound, with rubbing to leather causing some loss to the extremities, joints and backstrip. Lacking front blanks and front endpapers. Rear endpapers and blanks have been retained, and are filled with charming annotations from a previous owner. Marks to fore edge. Front hinge is strained, but holding generally firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean. A few marks to title page. Pages are a little closely trimmed to the head. The odd small closed tear.
