Volumes I and II only of this three volume work.

First published with contributions from Dutch physician and scholar Cornelis Schrevel [Cornelio Schrevelio] the year prior, 1661. This edition still features the 1661 dates to the engraved title page, but with the letterpress title page of volume I correctly dated 1662, as called for.

Also edited by classical literary scholar Nicolaas Heinsius the Elder, known for collecting Europe's largest private library in the field of classical literature.

Volume I features Ovid's Heroides, a collection of letters from mythological Roman women, and historical figures, to their lovers, while volume II features his 'Metamorphoses'.

Illustrated with a frontispiece to volume I, an engraved title page to each volume, and sixteen further plates to volume II.

Collated, complete.

Condition

In contemporary vellum bindings. Externally, significantly age toned, and spotting and handling marks to boards, and ink inscription to back strip heads. Rear board of volume I significantly age toned. Bookplates to a front blank of each volume. Internally, generally firmly bound, with first gathering of volume I working loose. Inscriptions to letterpress title page of volume I. Pages age toned due to paper type, with tide marks to perimeters throughout.
